Sex Magic

make love not war...

Over the centuries all sorts of mystical and magical currents have influenced our sexual experience. People have often experimented in secret. It was the hippies of the 1960s and 1970s who began to openly deal with the magical forces in sexuality. Now we are once again finding inspiration in the past. Mail & Female owes its raison d’être to the magic and erotic secrets that lay hidden in our history. We know that it is there that we must look to discover more about ourselves. Follow us back to Paradise...

Sexual liberation
The last few decades we have been especially busy with demystifying sexuality and bringing it down to earth. First there was the struggle for sexual freedom, by and for women. We had to rid ourselves of the commandments and taboos that Mama, the church and state had instilled in us. Although today the church still has problems about the rights of homosexuals and women, that has less influence on our individual lives. Once we accepted that sex is not exclusively a tool for procreation, we’ve become unstoppable. But now we encounter the question of how we can personally find a good balance among our needs for sex, freedom, love and romance.
Sexual liberation is an achievement, but there has been a down side too. Sexuality has also become something commercial, a toy in the hands of the amusement industry. That denies the erotic power of sex. And that is the last thing we want! We want to return the knowledge of magic to sex, and in doing so rediscover the essence of erotic enjoyment. The fact of the matter is, the true power of sexuality lies in the cherishing and vulnerability of our individual, magical capacities to love. That is the place of Mail & Female. We believe that sexual liberation is worth fighting for in this time of conservative politicians talking about ‘norms and values’, and at the same time seek a form in which both physical sex and spiritual eroticism can come together satisfactorily.
What is the essence of erotic pleasure? And where has the pioneering position that women originally had in it gone?

Gods and Goddesses
Long before our era, many cultures had rich erotic traditions. Particularly women played a role in these: High Priestesses, the foremost position. In ancient Greece sexuality was seen as an essential and divine part of human life. Many Goddesses are symbols of the erotic. Did you know, for instance, that our word ‘cunt’ is derived from the Greek fertility Goddess Kunthus? In addition there were the Gods such as Eros (God of sensual love) and Dionysus (God of ecstasy).
In many ancient Eastern cultures sexuality also played an important, magical role. Think for instance of the erotic statuary on Indian temples or the sexual Tantra techniques of the holy Kama Sutra. In Japan’s erotic Shinto shrines, the priestess displayed her genitals as she danced. This is like the striptease as we know it today, the beauty and art of which we have learned to value.
In Mesopotamia the love Goddess Ishtar was worshipped by women who served as holy prostitutes in the temples. The same was true for the priestesses of the temples of Aphrodite in Greece. In Latin America and the Caribbean region today Oshun and Erzulie are still worshipped and invoked as the Goddesses of fertility, feminine sensuality and coquetry.
The difference between then and now is primarily in the experience and esteem for particular sexual acts.

The magic of sex
It is not widely recognized that sex magic exists in our country. Yet we are all involved in it, consciously or not. How? By deriving energy from certain acts and occurrences. Actually, magic stands for the power and significance of our love, desire and sexual energy. Lighting colored candles, massage with scented oils, eating oysters, giving heart-shaped gifts to our beloved: these are all magical practices.
Magic is thus really hidden in everything. You do not only evoke it by means of a particular ritual; magic comes to life with colors, odors, herbs, foodstuffs, beverages and mood altering substances. You will note that not only your moods but also your hormonal state is influenced by the use of such things. It is often only a matter of searching for the right recipe. In place of viagra as a means of dealing with potency problems, you could also try an age-old magical aphrodisiac.
Magic is the way of guiding your sexual energy.
With specific breathing techniques you can learn to bring yourself to the edge of orgasm again and again, or even entirely relinquish physical climax. In addition to lofty goals such as achieving cosmic orgasm and unification, this has simple effects such as an immediate improvement of your orgasmic potential and sexual capacity. At another level, you can also reach deeper layers in yourself and, for instance, go into trance or enter a state of higher consciousness.

Do-it-yourself delight
Fortunately there are ever more books coming out that have stimulating and inspirational ‘sex education’ as their subject. For those who would rather watch than read, we also have several tremendous dvd’s that will help you to gain more knowledge, insight and pleasure. But of course, what is most pleasant is to experiment for yourself, to discover and develop your own secret sources!
